Airport chiefs say they are confident a man whose body fell from an aircraft at Gatwick had not breached their security.
An airport worker spotted the body of a man in his 20s plummeting from a Mexico-bound Boeing 777 on to the main runway on Christmas morning.
Police believe the man may have been a stowaway who had clambered into the underbelly of the British Airways jet.
But managers at Gatwick say they are confident their security would make it difficult for an unauthorised person to reach planes on the runway.
Duty manager Mike Ingle said: "It would be wrong to speculate what happened but I have full confidence in the search and security procedures at Gatwick."
Only a day earlier, a body believed to be that of another stowaway was found in a field near Rudgwick, West Sussex.
Police believe he too may have fallen from a plane heading in or out of Gatwick.
