The heaviest catch of the year among the Newhaven Deep Sea Anglers members was of 132lb 13oz, consisting mainly of conger and pollack and was boated by John Boys Jnr.
Seven fish have been recorded with the N.F.S.A. for specimen awards: two conger eels and single bass, ballan wrasse, lesser spotted dogfish, pollack and silver eel.
Of the scheduled 14 competitions, 12 took place and the overall catches were restricted by the new club rule that only six fish of each specie may be weighed-in.
Specie countdown: Bass: Not as plentiful as recent years, best 9lb 7oz. Black Bream: More plentiful than usual, best 3lb 3oz. Cod: A few caught early and late, best 16lb 14oz. Conger: Very few, best 61lb 15oz. The club has a minimum size qualification of 30lb.
Dab: Plentiful, but most undersize, best 15oz. Garfish: Only a few, best 1lb. Lesser Spotted Dogfish: Available all season, most predominant catch with best fish in six competitions, best 2lb 9oz. Ling: Very few, best 16lb 8oz.
Mackerel: Not as plentiful as usual, best 1lb 15oz. Plaice: Very few best 2lb 7oz. Pollock: Only a few, best 14lb 15oz. Pouting: Always available, best 2lb 8oz. Ray: Only thornbacks and very few, best 12lb 4oz.
Scad: Available July onwards, best 1lb. Smoothound: Very few, best 5lb 2oz. Spurdog: Normally early season but conspicuous by their absence, best 5lb 8oz. Whiting: Available all season with shoals from September but most under the club 12 inch size limit. Best 4lb 5oz. Wrasse (ballan): Just a few, best 4lb 5oz.
The club's annual effort for the RNLI raised £1,000 and the annual meeting and trophy presentation will be on February 4.
Six whiting, five pout and a rockling gave Steve Middleton a 4lb 6oz winning total in Bognor's pier match over three hours. Second was Steve Doncaster, with three each of whiting and pout for 1lb 9oz.
Littlehampton are to lose their existing clubhouse due to the redevelopment of part of the east bank of the River Arun in the harbour area.
But they are to be granted the use of a room as a clubhouse in the new RNLI complex.
