With all the flood water that had been pushing down the River Arun, Littlehampton officials did not expect many fish to show.
This in their annual flounder open match which could be fished anywhere between the harbour entrance and the A27 bridge at Arundel.
Seventy-eight anglers turned out and, for a few of the 22 who weighed in, it turned out to be quite profitable.

Former lifeboat crew member Dave Woollven (Littlehampton) was second on 2lb 1/4 oz and won a rod rest. Terry Thomas (Worthing) had a £50 gift voucher for his 1lb 11 1/4oz. Sixteen-year-old Jason Walsh (Littlehampton) was fourth on 1lb 6oz and won a rod.
Fifth was another ex-lifeboat crew member, Geoff Warminger (Littlehampton), who had 1lb 5oz. The match was fished in two zones with £100 for the best flounder in each and £60 for the runners-up. Winners of the £100 were Bill Millgate (Little-hampton), with a fish of 1lb 1 1/4oz and Terry Thomas with a fish of 1lb 3 1/4oz. The £60 winners were Jason Walsh (15oz) and Warminger (14 1/2oz).
Teenager Walsh also picked up £80 for winning the Littlehampton club's knock-out cup final fished in conjunction with the match. He was against Steve Tate who got 13 1/2oz.
