I live just around the corner from an area where two of the recent Brighton knife attacks occurred, yet I have seen very little police presence in recent days.

It is all very well for police spokespeople to say the task force is stepping up investigations, but in an area where the attacks seem to be concentrated I feel door-to-door visits by the police would be an obvious way of discovering whether locals had seen or heard anything or at least of warning residents to be more vigilant. To my knowledge, this has not happened.

We read this knifeman is a psychopath (Argus, December 22) and the police fear his next step could be murder. Well, isn't it about time for the police to increase the amount of officers on the street, particularly in the areas where the attacks have occurred? Surely this would act as some kind of deterrent.
