St Leonards and Langney Sports battled manfully through the mud at The Firs on New Year's Day.

But neither side could find a goal as the south coast Dr Martens eastern division derby ended in a scoreless draw.

Matt Allen almost gave the visitors the lead after just 12 seconds when his shot curled across the face of goal and Langney enjoyed the lion's share of the first half possession.

Allen could not quite convert a John Westcott cross and Matt Crabb burst through only to fire high and wide, but they were rare moments of promise as the heavy pitch made life difficult.

St Leonards went closest to breaking the deadlock when Danny Fletcher's miscued shot fell to Simon Fox. His effort cannoned off the near post and the follow-up from Ross Venables was saved.

Adam Flanagan also saw his weak header cleared as Saints rallied, and it was they who were the better side after the break.

Snelgrove was relieved to see the ball fly wide of his own goal when a free-kick skimmed off his head and home substitute Des Boateng shot wide soon after.

It was by no means one way traffic and Langney had the ball in the net twice only for both to be ruled out for offside as the sides had to settle for a point each.

Hynes leaves it late A goal ten minutes from time secured Crawley a point against eighth-placed Salisbury City but the Reds were worthy of all three in the Dr Martens premier division clash.

As early as the fifth minute, Mark Hynes could have given Reds the lead when through but Salisbury keeper Justin Shuttlewood rescued City. From the corner, Danny Carroll had a header cleared off the line.

Paul Sales gave Salisbury the lead on 18 minutes as he headed in a cross by Roger Emms.

Crawley came out after the break with guns blazing.

They continued to make chances but had to wait until the 80th minute for the equaliser.

Substitute Ian Payne's right-wing cross was flicked on by fellow substitute Francis Vines and the ball fell for Hynes with time and space to pick his spot.

Horsham suffers defeat In Ryman League division two, Horsham slipped to a 2-0 defeat against third-placed visitors Hemel Hempstead.

Gary Charman and Matt Smart went close for Horsham but Gary Winks put Hemel ahead on the half-hour.

Hornets tried to bounce back immediately and Gavin Geddes went close twice.

The visitors wrapped up the win in the 70th minute as Tony Kelly's speculative shot clipped Dennis Greene's heal to give Ian Chatfield no chance in the Hornet's goal.
