Four Sussex rivers have been placed on flood alert amid
fears about the unseasonably warm start to the New Year.
The Lavant, Ems, Adur and Cuckmere have all been issued with flood warnings as forecasters predict more heavy rain.
Experts also warn the warm start to the New Year will melt recent snowfalls and raise water levels on already swollen rivers.
Last year was the wettest for at least a century according to Argus weatherman Ken Woodhams.
He recorded 46.86 inches of rain at his weather station in Avondale Road, Hove, just beating the previous record of 46.50 inches in 1960.
Not surprisingly, October was the wettest month with 10.86 inches of rain.
