Plans for city centre houses have been submitted following the rejection of a similar scheme last year.

Brighton and Hove Council refused a scheme by Cornland Properties for a terrace of 14 houses on a 42 space car park in Upper Gloucester Road, Brighton.

The new scheme is for a terrace of ten houses fronting St Nicholas Road and two semi-detached homes fronting Upper Gloucester Road.

Michael Dade, of planning consultants Speer Dade, said the scheme would make effective use of a town centre site for much needed housing which would blend in with the design and scale of surrounding properties.

He said: "The site is ideally located for housing, being just a short walk from the station, main bus routes and the shops.

"Given the mounting pressure for new housing in the region and Brighton's particular constraint of Downs and sea, it is especially important to make the best use of centrally located brownfield sites like this one."

The proposed semi-detached houses would have two bedrooms. The terrace would be two-storey facing the road and three-storey at the back.

Mr Dade said: "The opinion of the council and local residents about the scheme which was refused has been taken on board in designing the new proposal, resulting in a lower density and more attractive design."
