Yet again Powdermill Reservoir, Sedlescombe's fly fishing lake controlled by Hastings Flyfishers and fished by Clive Vale club members has produced another huge rudd.

This time the fish, which is the second biggest taken from the water, weighed a staggering 3lb 6oz, just 1oz smaller than the largest caught last year.

It was landed by Fairlight angler Mick Erends, who fished with a swim feeder and four maggots, plus a knob of sweetcorn on a size 12 hook with 1 1/2lb bottom line.

Casting 50 yards the bite on the quiver tip nearly pulled the rod in and came around mid morning. The fish is the third big rudd to be taken from the water this winter and it follows the capture of a fish by myself weighing 2lb 14oz and another by Len Roberts of 2lb 14oz 8dr.

The rivers are now starting to fish after having run off from the recent floods.

There have been catches of pike and chub from the Rother and similar catches on the Brede. Several chub over 4lb have been caught on cheese and bread flake from the Brede including a fish of 4lb 9oz taken by Peter Craske during the snow.

Pike were also on the feed and dead baits accounted for fish up to 12lb.

The biggest pike were caught from the Rother at Blackwall Bridge where fish were said to have been caught to 15lb.

The Wallers Haven has also produced some big pike to anglers fishing with sprat, herring and mackerel in the Ironbridge to Boreham Bridge section, but the tench and bream which have been showing throughout the wet conditions are now off feed as expected.

At Iden Wood Fishery, mixed bags of carp, roach and skimmers to 30lb were caught from the Match Lake by pole fishermen fishing with maggot and caster over chopped worm.

Dave Finnis (Passies NBC) fished caster for a perch of 3lb 2oz from Passies Pond and the catch follows a number of big perch caught from this venue.

The Wally Roger's Memorial Shield incorporating the John Jones Memorial Cup was fished at Spring Wood Fisheries.

Results: 1. John Williams six fish for 12lb 7oz, 2. Alan Waters five fish for 12lb 5oz, 3. Les Hodge five fish for 12lb 4oz, 4. Doug Claydon five fish for 11lb 12oz.

Alan Waters won the John Jones Cup with a rainbow of 5lb.
