More than 60 streets in Brighton and Hove are still waiting for binmen to collect rubbish which has been piling up since Christmas.

During an extra shift on Saturday, workers for council waste contractor Sita cleared 78 out of 140 streets awaiting a collection.

This morning a Brighton and Hove Council spokeswoman said western and northern parts of the city had been cleared over the weekend. But eastern parts, including Kemp Town, are still waiting.

The spokeswoman said: "Streets in the west and north who normally have a collection today should get one but Sita are still behind in the east.

"The deadline is in a week but we are always trying to get it done early."
