Albion have reached an out-of-court settlement with Gillingham following a financial dispute with their former landlords.
The dispute related to the groundshare agreement inherited by the Seagulls' chairman Dick Knight when he took over the club.
Chief executive Martin Perry revealed: "It was to do with the hire of the ground.
"There was a figure in an invoice which we felt was not correct.
"We decided the right thing to do was to settle it before it went to court."
According to a national newspaper a dossier has been prepared against Gillingham by a private investigator, containing allegations of financial irregularities going back a number of years.
Albion played home matches at Gillingham's Priestfield Stadium for two seasons before moving to Withdean in August 1999.
