GLENN Burvill resigned as Saltdean United manager following Saturday's 1-1 draw with Three Bridges.
Andy Johnson's 90th-minute penalty salvaged a point for the Tigers but it was not enough to stop Burvill quitting.
Burvill, whose side have slipped down the table in recent weeks, said: "I feel it is best for everybody. I am sad to be leaving because I have enjoyed it here but the players have got used to me.
"We have just been going through the motions and it needs a new face.
"I saw the chairman and said I thought it was best we got someone else in because we could end up going down.
"Hopefully I have given them time to get a run going and stay up."
Steve Bean and Paul Higginson have been placed in temporary charge until the end of the season.
Steve Banks' 12th goal of the season looked enough to give Three Bridges victory but Johnson salvaged a point for Saltdean after Lee Elliot was brought down.
Dave John saw high-flying Hassocks grab another impressive win, then said: "That just keeps us out of relegation trouble."
The Robins boss is playing down his side's title chances, despite Saturday's 3-1 triumph at previously in-form Selsey.
Left wingback Ashley Low fired home the rebound when his first shot was saved by Dave Lever but and own goal by Andy Fisk levelled matters.
James Laing restored the lead from a Luke Flomo through ball and Micky Turner made sure with a spectacular lob.
Laing also had a penalty saved by Lever.
Wick ended a barren run as their ten men came from behind to win 2-1 at Whitehawk.
Boss Carl Stabler said: "We are still not playing well. We deserved to win but the goals were a long time coming."
Chris Brown put Hawks in front and Wick new boy Nick Loversedge was sent off just before the break for a second bookable offence.
Wick still managed to level from a Gary Young penalty after Darren Aniss was brought down.
A free-kick from Ben Milford created the winner for Gareth Green.
Burgess Hill's strike force of Ashley Carr and Lee Isaac combined to set up a convincing 3-0 home win over Sidlesham.
Carr crossed for Isaac to head home at the far post on 55 minutes. Roles were reversed as Carr hit his eighth in seven games.
Substitute Tim Marshall added a late third.
Leaders Horsham YMCA marched on with a 5-0 win over Eastbourne Town, who had chances to take an early lead.
Nick Flint turned the game by beating a defender and the goalkeeper before shooting home. Matt Duffield header and Phil Churchill made it 3-0 at the break. Flint added a 20-yarder and substitute Glen Newall rounded things off.
