RIVAL BOUGHT: Online research portal ingenta has snapped up its main competitor, CatchWord, for £11.2 million - which could rise to £16.7 million if CatchWord hits revenue targets.
TRANSFER: Up to 1,200 IT staff at pharmaceutical group AstraZeneca are to transfer to IBM after the two signed a global outsourcing agreement worth £1.2 million.
CHIPS DOWN: Sega's decision to cease the production of its Dreamcast games console will hit profits at Imagination Technologies in 2001-2002, the company has warned. Imagination made the 3D graphics chip for the console. Its shares fell 31 per cent as a result.
ON LINE: Engineering and construction contractor Balfour Beatty has been awarded a £175 million rail contract in Malaysia in a joint venture with Siemens and Adtranz. It is for the electrification of 180km of line running north from the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur.
