There is a TV programme called Temptation Island which has hit America by storm.
Although I haven't seen it, I read a great deal about it on a trip to the States.
While the title somewhat gives away the plot, the main aim seems to be to destroy relationships.
Four unmarried couples are put on an island with a group of scantily-clad singles.
They then split the group of singles up and send them off with half the couples group. In the hope of partners being unfaithful, they help matters along by constantly handing out alcohol.
In order to qualify for this distasteful charade, the couples had to be in a committed relationship.
Recruiting people whose relationship was rock solid would not be good for viewing figures.
More likely they chose couples showing signs of wear and tear. Imitation Island would be more apt.
All they get is a holiday and the chance to humiliate themselves. The show's popularity is not in question, even if its ethics are.
