The Stewart report on mobile phones has been seriously misrepresented by Councillor Taylor (Argus, January 30) and others.
It says: "The precautionary approach is not 'all or none'...it is a matter of degree...before accepting new development we should have positive evidence that risks are acceptably low" (para 6.15) ...and thus that "the INCIRP guidelines for public exposure be adopted" (para 6.35).
Brighton and Hove Council planning officer reports are based on the more stringent INCIRP guidelines and hence are as precautionary as is recommended.
Moreover, the report recommends that "(all stakeholders) should become actively involved in addressing public concerns about possible health effects of mobile phones" (para 6.40). What this means is that people should not scaremonger and create anxiety for political purposes or even ingenuously.
