Yes, of course, the earthquake victims in El Salvador and now in India urgently need help (Opinion, February 5).
And I am glad we can help them. But there are also a lot of very rich people in India who can help, even more than we can.
What bothers me is that when we had our floods here last October and November, did any of the rich or middle-class people in India come to help us clean up?
I am concerned that if aid always goes one way, rather then being mutual, it may lead to a patronising feeling of superiority which doesn't do us any good at all.
