Pike to 22lb have been caught on sea fish dead baits from the Wallers Haven.
In the Boreham Bridge area of the river and among recent catches was also a fish of 18lb 4oz. Both fish were hooked by members of the Pike Angling Club of East Sussex (PACES) during their Pike Pairs match on the water.
Since then catches have dropped off a little after recent rain muddied the water. However, some fish have been taken by anglers fishing with very oily and smelly baits, including fish of 16lb 8oz and 12lb 4oz.
The Rother continues to produce the odd decent pike when it is fishable, but no sooner does it start to drop than heavy rain brings it back up again. A group of anglers fishing at Newenden did manage to find some feeding pike and fishing with sprats caught them to 15lb.
There were also a few pike caught from Blackwall Bridge and Iden Lock areas of the river but of no great size.
Wintons Fishery continues to produce the goods and on Mallard Lake three carp over 20lb were caught with the biggest scaling 28lb. But, one of the most successful anglers was Joe Racz-kowski from Sporting Chance in Haywards Heath.
After missing fives takes he adjusted his bait so that his home made paste bait was tight to the hook, which resulted in a 25lb 8oz common and 21lb 8oz mirror.
On Kingfisher Lake an unnamed angler caught a 38lb mirror carp. Two match anglers also fished Kingfisher with waggler fished maggots and caught 12lb of roach each to 10oz.
At Darwell Reservoir members of the Clive Vale Angling Club found the roach difficult to catch, though some anglers did manage to land a decent bag of them while swim feeder fishing with maggots.
The dam proved the most productive area and produced a bag of 10lb 12oz to Mark Jones of Bexhill, while in the Hogs Trough Chris Hitchens, also of Bexhill, caught 7lb 1oz of fish to 8oz.
Other results were: 3 Nick Harmer 3lb 11oz, 4 Ralph Livesey 3lb 4oz, 5 Paul Kent 3lb 2oz, 6 Chris Noble, 7 Harry Wheeler 2lb 2oz each.
The pike fishing on the water was poor and only a few jacks have been taken. After fishing all day with a dead bait I finally caught a pike on quiver tipped maggots, though it was only a small one.
On the sea fishing scene at Hastings the Hastings and St.Leonards Angling Association ten year old pollock record was broken with a fish of 17lb 12oz taken by Terry Knight from a wreck.
