Timmy Barry, who died when he was swept into a rough sea near Brighton Marina, was by all accounts a lovely lad.
That's why an appeal is being launched today at Hillside Special School in Portslade which he attended.
The school wants to revamp a barren area into a proper playground and call it the Timmy Barry Garden.
Timmy, who was autistic, was described by staff as being full of joy and love. He spent hours on the garden site playing happily and running around.
Already there have been promises from firms and businesses of donations.
It should be possible to raise the rest to celebrate the life of Timmy rather than mourn his death.
The playground should also contain a memorial to his carer, Janette Moss, who died on the same day.
It's believed she ran into the sea to try to save him before they were both sucked into the waves. She loved Timmy so much she paid for it with her life.
