A police dog handler today told a jury how a group of youths threw stones at full force towards her during a disturbance.
PC Michelle Innes, who was giving evidence at a trial at Hove Crown Court yesterday, told how she pointed out to colleagues two teenagers who were throwing missiles and they were arrested after a struggle.
The two youths were among ten people charged following the outbreak of trouble on April 28 last year.
A crowd gathered in Whitehawk Way and threw missiles and shouted abuse at officers who tried to clear the area.
Police in riot gear charged at groups of youths to try to disperse the crowd as the trouble escalated.
The jury has been shown video footage of CCTV recordings of the incident.
PC Innes, who was injured during the incident, said: "There was a lot of verbal abuse going on. In my opinion the stones were thrown at full force."
She told the court she was absolutely certain the two youths threw missiles at her and disagreed her memory was contaminated by watching the CCTV recording of the incident afterwards.
Darren Larbey, 22, of Findon Road, Ricky Rider, 18, of Haybourne Road, Leon Page, 18, of Plaistow Close, Asa McBride, 18, of Haybourne Close and Lee Gumbrill, 18, of Swallow Court, are all charged with violent disorder, as are five juveniles who cannot be named for legal reasons.
They all deny the charges. The trial continues.
