Ordinary people will find our story today of the world's largest internet paedophile ring hard to believe.

The seven people sentenced yesterday, including one from Bognor and one from St Leonards, were part of an international organisation which had more than 750,000 pictures.

These images included degrading pictures of children along with videos of youngsters suffering sexual abuse.

They were cunning enough to use coded software which made it exceptionally hard for police to find the images.

But find them they did and these seven perverts are now behind bars which will be a relief for every parent of young children.

The worry is that their sentences were light because of the law as it was when they were charged.

It has since been changed to enable courts to pass much more severe sentences on future offenders.

The sad and disturbing thing is that some of the defendants did not seem to understand the enormity of their crimes.

That is why it is essential for them to be under licence once they are released so that the chances of repeat offences are greatly reduced.
