The new road season has only just started, but West Sussex club GS Stella raced to their fourth team win in eight days.

They accomplished this feat at the Central Sussex CC 25-mile time trial at Ashurst.

Stella star Mark Jones, from Storrington, also took the individual honours and recorded the fastest time of exactly one hour.

His Saltdean clubmate John Limpus was second in 1hr.0min.9sec, while Phil Wise, from East Preston, finished seventh in 1hr.5min 34sec to clinch the team prize.

Third place went to Paul Read (Redhill) in 1hr.3min 11sec. Fourth was last year's winner Dave Dent (Portsmouth) with 1hr 3min.17sec, followed by Londoner Mark Gidney (34th Nomads) in 1hr.3min.23sec and Duncan Murdoch (Redhill) in 1hr.3min 47sec. Bognor's Mike Marchant was tenth with 1hr.7min.15sec.

Jones said: "It would have been nice to have been just one second faster and beaten the hour. It was a really tough ride, especially on the southbound leg down to Washington.

"I haven't got a race next weekend but I'll be riding in the Redhill Hardrider's event on February 25 and the East Surrey Hardriders time trial on March 4."

The 70km Perf's Road Race in Hampshire attracted many top riders. The race had to be switched to a new course at Owlesbury due to flooding at Meonstoke, but Julian Winn (Welsh CU) was a worthy winner after outsprinting Paul Pickup (Liphook Cycles) by two lengths.

Martin Markowski, of Hastings club VC Bayeux, placed 17th, just ahead of clubmates Peter Tadross (18th) and Chris Wilkin (21st).

Riders wanting to take part in the Sussex Sporting Courses Competition must register first otherwise their performances will not count for the overall prizes.

There is no registration fee and riders should contact Les Janman, 14 Mansfield Road, Bognor Regis.
