The centre of Brighton has seen a glut of violent incidents in the last few years.
Too many have lost their lives in and around Brighton's pubs and clubs.
Too many gay men have been the victim of homophobic attacks as they enjoy a drink in a city centre pub.
Too many women have felt threatened by the boorish behaviour of large groups of drunken men.
Too many bar staff have been intimidated by packs of drinkers who have had one too many.
Too much taxpayers' money has been spent by the police trying to keep these anti-social yobs in line.
A new initiative launched by Sussex Police, together with pubs and clubs in North Street and the Lanes, may finally put a stop to the bloodshed and intimidation.
Pubwatch could mean anyone banned from one pub for theft, rowdiness or violence could be barred from up to 19 other establishments.
By cutting out the rotten parts, a night out in the big apple of Brighton could become more enjoyable, more pleasant - and a whole lot safer.
