Shoreham's four hour midweek match was on a really bad night but five different species were caught with Tony Scarf winning on 185 cent (225 points) from Angel Wolfenden 148 (178) while the best fish was a 31 per cent flounder. The match was fished from the west arm.

A big tide with tackle being lost and weed aplenty meant it was not the best of days for the 13 members of Paupersis who got 154 fish weighing 38lb 14 1/2oz during six hours on Hove beach.

Catches were mainly rockling and channels. Mark Dudeney had 24 for 6lb 6oz; Geoff Cousins 28 for 6lb 1/4oz; Roger Stanton 16 for 5lb 8 1/4oz; Ian Rose 20 including an 8 8/4oz channel for 5lb 14 3/4oz and Mark Attree had an 8 1/2oz flounder in his 4lb 6 1/2oz.

Members go to Dungeness on February 24 for a night tide match.

Blown off the beach at East Preston, members of Bognor Surfcasters fished the river Arun in the region of Littlehampton Golf Club where Marilyn Stell won with a 14oz eel and six rockling for 2lb 7oz; Brian Babbage had a flounder and four rockling for 1lb 15oz while his brother Ray Babbage had five rockling for 1lb 12oz and the best flounder was 11oz landed by Derek Hardman. Floods have caused a tremendous amount of damage to the Cypress Wood and Bushmere fisheries of the Isfield club and major repair work will be carried out during the close season. Repair work always takes its toll on the appearance of water but nature is a good healer.

The new lake at Wilderness has also suffered with a lot of top soil washed off the islands and banks. Fish stocking will start next month with roach, tench, crucian carp and chub to go in. Swims will be constructed and fishing should commence in September.

Isfield's Mill Pond was netted last year and a large number of bream and tench relocated to Broadhurst, but it is obvious from the amount of bream caught during the current season that another netting is needed and this will take place before next season.

Isfield's annual meeting will be held on March 28 at Isfield Village hall (7.30pm) and members are reminded that subscriptions are due by May 1.
