There seems to be so much negative comment about asylum-seekers these days that I feel the need to express my pleasure at a small item included in the South Today programme.
A Sudanese family had fled from their war-torn country and now live here with their two daughters.
The elder daughter had won an award as a bright pupil and appeared on screen bursting with life and enthusiasm.
Her parents were briefly seen and were obviously proud of her but were shy and had little command of English.
I would think it difficult for such people to obtain work here and they are probably in receipt of benefit. This is where people start to complain as tax payers.
I do not complain. These parents have done what they thought best for their children and these children will eventually contribute to the well-being of this country.
It is we who have benefited.
