Having Trifast named as one of the best companies to work for in the UK was no surprise for its deputy chief executive John Wilson.
The Uckfield-based manufacturer of nuts, bolts and screws was ranked 26th in a table of best companies to work for, compiled by the Department of Trade and Industry and the Confederation of British Industry.
A large part of the company's production is for export and it has discovered that one of the best ways to ensure happy customers is through having a happy workforce.
With a workforce of 300 in Uckfield, a further 450 people at 16 sites across the UK and 250 in overseas operations, keeping everybody happy is important.
Mr Wilson said: "Every worthwhile company should realise that people are their greatest assets. That has always been our philosophy at Trifast which is why we have been able to grow into a leader in our line of business.
"One indicator we are getting things right with the people who work here is the high staff retention. Large companies expect a regular turnover of staff but at Trifast it is a different story. It seems that people don't want to leave us."
Among the benefits offered to staff are a company pension, share savings scheme, medical insurance, regular training, stress counselling, maternity and paternity leave.
The Government- backed project was aimed at identifying businesses where people enjoy working. Staff were interviewed on what they thought of their employers.
Chief executive Malcolm Diamond said: "I am thrilled Trifast has been so highly rated by its staff. We recognise our products are not the most exciting in the world and that is all the more reason to make the workplace stimulating and challenging and as much fun as possible."
