Former Albion captain Gary Hobson is fearing a relegation double.
Hobson was with Chester when they went down to the Conference last season. Now his new club York are desperate for a result at Withdean on Saturday in their battle to beat the drop.
They did Albion a favour on Tuesday with a shock win at promotion chasing Rochdale, which moved them off the bottom.
Hobson said: "We've had some bad performances and made some horrendous mistakes, but I am hoping the Rochdale result will give us some confidence.
"A lot of teams are involved at the bottom and I think we are good enough to get out of it. It would be disastrous if I took another side down, but it's not my fault at the moment. I haven't played for six months."
Hobson is on his way back from a cracked right knee which required surgery.
"I played 70 minutes in the reserves last week, so I am not far away," he said.
"But I don't think I will be involved on Saturday. It's a bit too soon."
