Portslade Sports secretary Terry Waite wishes he had not bothered having a rare run-out as a second half sub against IFL Old Boys.
He had only been on for five minutes when he collided with team-mate Charlie Davis. He said: "My ribs were bruised badly. And I couldn't even get off the field, because the sub didn't want to come on."
MITCH WINNER Chris Mitchell saved Brighton Electricity's blushes by scoring in the 87th minute against AFC Stanley to give them a 2-1 win in the Brighton League. The lanky 43-year-old notched his 18th goal of the season. Not bad for someone who started his career in the 1960s.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK It's always great to read quotes in a match report. West Chiltington kindly submitted one after their 6-0 West Sussex League Division Four Central win against Petworth Reserves. Was it from their star player Lorne Andrews or their manager? No. They quote the club's treasurer! He said: "We did enough to win but it was a poor game. I was particularly unhappy with our movement off the ball. In fact, I have seen more movement in a morgue than from some of our midfield." At least it was good one.
BUSH WITHDRAW Bush have withdrawn from the Sussex Sunday League Premier Division. All records have been altered. The club were unable to raise a regular team this season and have therefore decided to bring an end to their 15-year history.
SUPER SAVER Harrow II had a hero to salute last weekend. Keeper Rob Margi saved two penalties as his men clung on to a 1-1 draw in Hastings Sunday League Division Two against Tilekiln.
COACH COURSE The Sussex FA is organising a grassroots residential coaching course in Brighton in April. The course requires budding coaches to stay for three nights at Brighton College. The event is being held in conjunction with the Albion. For further details contact the Sussex FA on 01903 753547.
DRINKING TO THAT Hangleton Reserves must have been pleased to get into the pub and drown their sorrows after their Sussex Sunday League double header against Goring Cricket Club. Having already been hammered 13-0 they had to play another match and fell to an 11-0 defeat. Goring's Mark Thornett would have been keen to join them after he grabbed TEN goals in the two games.
DINOSAUR DAVE Dave Hanley is still showing the kids how it is done. The 53-year-old turned out for Traffers Bar in Hastings and District League Division One. Unfortunately he was unable to inspire them to victory, as they slipped to a 3-1 defeat against Hastings Postal.
CLOSE FINISH It doesn't matter how you score them. That is what Steven Chester will be telling his Sporting Priory team-mates after his first goal of the season. The goal-shy player finally found the net in a 12-1 Hastings League Division Four win against ONYX from one yard.
