Brighton A would have wished for better than a 5-5 draw with Eastbourne C in the East Sussex Senior League.
They remain three points behind the leaders in third after the shock of seeing one of their top men Mick West beaten in the first two frames.
Tony Strange levelled the match by beating John Avery while Ben Evans also won both before Simon Dent hit a 50 to grab the fifth point in the penultimate frame.
Colin Slattery, Brighton's current break-making star notched another two, 46 and 29, to help the 147 Club B team stay top of Division One. The other scorers for the B team were Nick Czapiewski, Stuart Dunseith and Malcolm Egginton. Rob Pickard won for the Castle Club.
But 147 Club A are favourites to win as they are only two points behind and have a match in hand after the league programme of February 12.
Rottingdean beat The Hyde C via Dave Burchett, Dave Elliott and J Baker. Dave Alderton and Dudley Rignell won for The Hyde.
St Annes' winners against third-placed Annunciation were Steve Pelling and Tony Shipley.
John Cairns of Bevendean Sports became the new highest break star of Division Three with a 39.
Leaders Pot Black D were surprised by Brighton Police with wins from Paul Sweeney, Dave Roughley and Mick Jones.
Brighton Refs beat The Hyde D with Ernie Bysh, Rodney Moogan, who hit a 30, and Ted and Trevor Salvage successful as they closed the gap in Division Four. Peter Miller replied for The Hyde.
Division Five's top clash saw Portslade Sports beat Dyke Golf through Grant Brandson, Oliver Stuart and Danielle Sterling, who hit another highest of 47.
The Golf winners were Richard Arnold, who hit a 34, and Charles Harrison.
Lloyds TSB beat Champion House C via Mark Thomas, Daniel Lyons, Tim Shutt and Tony Walker. D Turner replied.
Hove Conservative C have a match in hand and beat Trades and Labour via Peter Rawlinson, Tony Dade, Harold Franks, Ken Addecott and Peter Crittendon.
The positions in the Billiards League remain unchanged.
Only St Annes scored the maximum 500, Dudley Rignell scored the highest break of the week of 41.
