Peter Reynolds and Terry Howard dominated the National over-60s pairs area final at Preston.

They lead Adur's Ken Twine and Mike Gulliver 20-3 after 11 ends and won 24-11 at 19 ends. They now play the Kent area winners in the last 32, on a neutral green.

In the national over-60s doubles rink, Preston beat Banister Park 35-34 on an extra end at Horsham in the last 16. Eric South, Alf Carver, John Laker and Dave Woosnam led 10-3 after seven ends but then dropped 2,1,4,2 and lost 23-17 to Danny McEwan who had an outstanding game.

Dennis Alderton, Charlie Harvey, Joe Galelli and Ken Thatcher won 17-11 against Ken Marsh. Preston play Herga (Middlesex) in the quarter-finals on a date and neutral green to be arranged.

After seven ends of the over-50s national triples area final at Victory, the Worthing Pavilion team of Dave Thomas, Ron Rebera and Colin Brown led Arun's Bryan Butler, Rod Jamieson and Colin Knight 9-5. But that's where the Arun interest petered out as the Pavilion team romped away to win 23-5 at 16 ends.

In the main national triples, Preston's John Durrant, Leigh Prince and Richard Moses did not play the final end after losing 17-10 at home to Don Kent, Alan Clark and Brian Miller from Denton Island. The Denton members face the winners of the Eric South, Joe Galelli, Basil Holding versus Peter Delonnette, Graham Lavender and Ron Packham tie in the final.

With a full house of eight on the eighth end and a seven on the 16th, Peter Wren, Allan Hilton, Tommy Tucker and Clive Palmer had a runaway 41-13 win over Ron Harvey to help Sussex to a 167-101 win over a weak Buckinghamshire team at Grattons.

When they led 26-5 at 15 ends, Tom Riley, Ted Norris, Norman Kennard and Dave Lindsay were heading for top honours but they were pegged back 34-11 up on Peter Brown.

After a slow start Brian Glynn, Brian Anders, Fred Millward and Mike Field won 25-15 over John Gamblin while Caleb Downey, John Bates, Roy Sedgwick and Barry Hayes lost 25-20 to Bill Fuller. John Brand, Adrian Miller, Ted Rogers and Paul Jolliffe were went down 26-15 to Ron Adams. Rogers was making his debut and Brand, Downey and Hayes received their county badges.

Vince Lyons (Egerton), Terry Ceaton (Grattons) and Reg Strong (Horsham) received their county badges and Alick Janaway (Langney), John Humphreys (Falaise), Tom Blundell (Grattons) and Mick Jones (Wealden) debut lapel badges after playing for Sussex in a 184-152 defeat at Glebelands against Middlesex.

Horsham's Lou Mockett, Strong, Rod Taylor and Geoff Cresswell finished top rink after a 33-19 success over Ron Petch. Lyons, Robin Boswell, George Jerram and Gerry Mepham got a seven on the 12th end to wase them to a 28-13 victory over R. Dodson.

Wealden's Jones, Brian Wilins, Peter Jepson and Alex Parsons got a single on the last end to draw 19-19 with T. Nunn while Grattons members Blundell, Ceaton, Brian Fuller and Terry Cox dropped a seven on the 19th end and lost 29-18 to T. Mould.

John Hoggarth, Brian Constable, Derek Johnson and John Gockelen lost 21-19 to L. Prior while Falaise foursome Humphreys, Foster Barker, Dave Mobsby and Derrick Foster went down 25-13 to B. Elbourne.

Geoff Sutton, Janaway, Tony Goodwin and Jerry Dean lost 27-13 to R. Smith while Ron Riley, Des Davis, Peter Wilkinson and Mike Field dropped 4,5,4,4 starting on the fifth endas they tumbled to a 31-9 defeat against B. Middleton.
