Worthing failed to follow up their away victory over Aylesbury with a much needed home success as bottom of the table Barton Rovers held them to a 1-1 draw at Woodside Road.

Rebels have been stuck in a rut at home since their last win over Walton and Hersham 14 weeks ago, and it took a scrappy goal from Simon Funnell midway through the second half to put them level after Stuart Lockhead's 17th-minute opener.

Lockhead struck from the edge of the six-yard box after Barton keeper Brad Gillham had made some fine early saves and had twice splendidly denied Mark Burt.

Paul Kennett had a shot blocked and also headed a Burt cross over before Worthing got themselves back into the game with Funnell scoring direct from a corner.

Gillham kept Rebels at bay as they mounted a late challenge and, after Neil Francis and Peter Brackley were denied by the keeper, Marc Rice had a header cleared off the line as the match ended in deadlock.

Worthing have slipped to ninth after taking a disappointing nine points from their last 11 games.

Bognor had to settle for a 0-0 draw away to a Harlow Town side who had won their last five games. It was always going to be tough for the Rocks and manager Jack Pearce had no complaints about the result.

Pearce said: "I am pleased with the result. Any non defeat away from home is good.

"However, I felt if we had taken all three points the home side could not have complained. On the day we just lacked that quality of balls into the box when in a threat-ening position."

The home team who had the better of the first half and they were denied a penalty shortly before half time when Marc Salmon appeared to be pushed in the back.

Jamie Howell came close to breaking the deadlock at the start of the second period.

In the closing stages Harlow's Salmon saw his shot come back off the post.

Then Neil Scammell thought he had grabbed a winner for Bognor only for James Hassell to make a fabulous save.
