Kerry Mayo stood out in a rare appearance for Albion Reserves yesterday.
Mayo, banned from the trip to Leyton Orient on Saturday following five cautions, turned out for the Reserves in a 2-0 win at Bristol City.
Transfer-listed goalkeeper Mark Cartwright was also in the line-up but Darren Freeman, who asked for a transfer last week, was not in the squad despite being expected to play.
Nevin Saroya, a 20-year-old trialist released by Brentford, turned out in defence.
Two first half goals gave Albion victory in this Avon Insurance Combination game at rain-lashed Ashton Gate.
At one time, with heavy rain falling, the game looked to be in doubt, but hard work by the ground staff cleared the surface water and the game went ahead.
The Seagulls were well served by Mayo. He continually broke forward down the left and his crosses always posed problems for the home side.
Albion went ahead on eight minutes when Lee Steele and Scott Ramsay linked to put Conor McCurdy clear to score with the home defence vainly looking for an offside decision.
A second goal arrived four minutes before half time when Steve Melton's quickly taken free kick put Ramsay clear to score.
City had the better of the second half with Liam Rosenior and Damian Spencer both hitting the woodwork, although McCurdy did likewise for Albion late on.
Albion Reserves: Cartwright, Davis, Mayo, Virgo, Saroya, Johnson, Wilkinson, Melton, Ramsay, Steele, McCurdy. Subs: Thomas, Greatwich, Beech.
