Sussex were pipped 3-2 by Yorkshire in the national inter-county under-13s final at Coral's, Hove.
The top two strings, Tom Pashley (East Grinstead) and Oliver Pett (Horsham), each won 3-0, but Todd McCann (Chichester), Adam Baines-Jump (Hassocks) and William Beer (Horsham) lost by the same scoreline.
Manager Simon Pett, father of Oliver, said: "We expected Tom and Oliver to win because they are both ranked top five in the country, but Yorkshire just had too much strength in depth for us.
"They seem to be more geared up for squash at under-13s in the north."
Sussex overcame Derbyshire 5-0 in the semi-finals, dropping just one game, while Yorkshire edged through 3-2 against Dorset. Pett said: "I think we would have beaten Dorset."
The Sussex squad was completed by Stephen Wykes (Chichester) who won both his non-scoring matches.
