I read with interest the recent correspondence about the boys cycling on the footpath.
They deserved to be booked if they had been told not to ride on the path and were warned if they did it again they would get booked.
When I was a lad, I was told you respected the law and you respected your elders. You had a front and rear light when riding at night, you obeyed the law, stopped at traffic lights and didn't use footpaths.
It's the same as the law in general. The police as well as the traffic wardens are under-staffed.
Cars run around Brighton with only one headlight, motorists ignore "no entry" signs, don't use seat belts, use mobile phones while driving and nothing seems to be done.
Years ago, the police used to do random checks - just pull in a few at a time and check the vehicles out.
