So Ivor Caplin MP has always believed a reduction of councillors would be beneficial (Argus, February 21).
However, reflecting upon when he stood in the May 1991 Hove Council elections for Portslade South and was elected in third place, I do not recall this view being clear.
Indeed, in Portslade South ward under the local government proposals, there is a reduction from the present three councillors representing the ward to only two.
In addition, I wholeheartedly agree with both Councillors Allen and Tonks (Opinion, February 21). There is a very real need for more informed public discussion over these extremely important democratic changes.
-Coun Steve Collier, South Portslade ward
