The sheer arrogance of Brighton and Hove City Council's Labour administration knows no bounds.

In her letter to councillors, Lynette Gwyn-Jones says she is "very concerned" that a process forgetting an elected mayor was agreed in a committee but voted down at full council.

Funny, I seem to remember that when the change to the cabinet system was being brought in we were promised by Councillor Gwyn-Jones, among others, that we needn't worry - full council would still have the final say on policy-making.

Well it seems full council will only be allowed the final say when it rubber-stamps decisions already made behind closed doors by the council leadership.

Surely Labour's ridiculous "we know best" attitude is obvious even to the cabinet members, when even councillors who might normally be expected to be loyal either abstained in the vote or found something else to do with their afternoon.

The Labour leadership's dictatorial handling of the whole matter illustrates perfectly why I left the Labour Party to campaign for democratic socialist policies.
