Congratulations to Fiona Pooley on qualifying as a train driver (Argus, February 26).

I tried to apply for an application form for such a job last year. I was told I did not qualify for the job before even filling in a form.

The reason? Poor sight? Character defect? Physical infirmity? Poor work record? No - rejected out of hand because I'd reached the grand old age of 47.

Perhaps passengers might bear this in mind next time the train they are waiting for is cancelled because of staff shortages.

The sooner the Government brings in anti-age discrimination regulations the better.
