Audrey Simpson should take some pointers about how to write a critique from the precise appraisal of a pub by Gill Farrington on the same page as her negative evaluation of Leone's restaurant.

I suspect she would have turned the positive "traditional atmosphere" into "common environment" had she written that commentary.

In my experience, the food and exceptional service at Leone's is superior to many other local restaurants. We all have different tastes and our requirements don't necessarily conform to Ms Simpson's.

Perhaps the Italian music and telephone ringing, to which she refers, attacked her fine sensibilities more than she realised, because to scornfully refer to the decor at Leone's as cluttered and patterned and to include the customers in this comment reflects that she regards her obvious monochrome style as the only mode worth consideration.

There are few restaurants that offer the space, elegance of decor and value for money that Leone's does.

As an experienced restaurateur, Ms Simpson comments that the starters were good and she declined dessert.

The choice of two fish main courses and her disparaging analysis made this a fault-finding mission and not the broad opinion we should expect any prospective visit to a restaurant to be based upon.

In future I will be looking out for the rational observations by Ms Farrington - who showed no disquiet towards brocade curtains - and not relying on Audrey Simpson's overtones of her own grandeur.
