A teenage girl died after being found slumped in a town centre street early yesterday morning.
The 17-year-old was discovered by a passer-by in Devonshire Road, Hastings, at 2am.
She was taken to the Conquest Hospital in Hastings but died a short time later.
Police would not say whether they were treating the incident as murder but are continuing to investigate.
Detective Inspector Nigel Smith, heading the inquiry, said: "The details are still very sketchy at the moment."
A force spokesman said: "We are not releasing any further details until the next of kin have been informed."
Details of a post mortem examination carried out yesterday have not been released.
