The decision to start work at the southern end of George Street, Hove, was made partially at the request of the traders.
It is inevitable the works will cause some disruption, but Brighton and Hove City Council, together with its contractor and consultant, is working closely with traders and all other users of the street to minimise any inconvenience caused.
The delivery times - before 10am and after 4pm - are the same as the hours stipulated before the works began.
The contractor is happy to make staff available to assist with deliveries and all traders have been advised of this.
Works are due to be completed by the end of May 2001.
Meanwhile, the resident engineer supervising the site is on hand to look into any concerns traders may have.
All traders have been advised of his name and contact number.
-John Douglas, traffic and transport planning manager, Brighton and Hove City Council
