Albion defender Matthew Wicks returned to the ground where his injury problems started and strolled through his first 90 minutes back yesterday.

The only blip was an 88th minute booking for a push on Julian Alsop but apart from that Wicks reported no problems.

Dean White, the man in charge of the Albion side, said: "It was vitally important that he got through the game, and he did."

Wicks pulled a hamstring during Albion's 3-1 Nationwide League division three defeat at Cheltenham on February 17 and has been having treatment at Lilleshall.

It was a significant day as well for striker Lee Steele, back after a three match ban and back with a goal.

He was more or less handed it in the 15th minute, when Cheltenham centre half Shane Duff headed the ball over his goalkeeper, Shane Higgs, leaving Steele with the simple job of tapping it in.

Steele was also cautioned in the 76th minute of a game Albion should have won. They could have scored three in the first 15 minutes, when Scott Ramsay hit the bar, Steele shot past the post, and Chris Allen chipped a shot straight to Higgs.

After the goal, Steele had a left foot drive beaten away by Higgs, and Allen had the freedom of the left side. But things changed in the second half.

Will Packham made a save on his line when Jason White headed firmly downwards and Cheltenham drew level after 70 minutes, with a stinging drive from 25 yards by midfielder Hugh McAuley.

A header by Steele was tipped over before Packham and Adam Virgo collided in mid-air and the ball dropped to Duff, who walked it in to give Cheltenham a 2-1 lead with 14 minutes left.

Chris McPhee levelled with a 25-yard rocket into the far corner five minutes from the end.
