Callers to Brighton-based Government minister Lord Bassam are being told they are The Weakest Link.
The Home Office minister appears to be so taken with Anne Robinson - dubbed TV's rudest presenter for her catty comments on the quiz show - that he has an impersonation of her on his home answering machine.
Lord Bassam, the former leader of Brighton and Hove Council, uses the impersonation of stern Robinson to amuse callers.
A throaty voice growls: "Hello this is Anne Robinson on behalf of the Bassam family . . . did you know that? No, I don't think you did.
"You are the weakest link. Goodbye."
A spokesman for Lord Bassam said: "It is very funny. I think his son left the message."
In The Weakest Link, contestants vote each other out until the last person wins cash accumulated by their team.
