A Malaysian court has ordered an East Sussex man to be imprisoned pending sentencing for overstaying his visa.
Graeme Parker, 32, faces a maximum of five years in prison or a fine after pleading guilty to a charge of staying in Malaysia after his visa expired last month.
Magistrate Kalmizah Salleh fixed May 29 for sentencing.
Parker was ordered to remain in custody and was taken to the Sungei Buloh prison on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur.
Malaysian military police arrested Parker on April 6 inside the defence ministry compound. Officials downplayed reports that he was a spy.
Parker was granted a customary two-month tourist visa but did not leave Malaysia as required by March 31.
