It was a case of better late than never for Legal and General Reserves player James McCullough.
He failed to arrive in time for kick-off for the game against CCK last Saturday and when he did finally turn up he missed an open goal with his first touch. However, McCullough made amends in the second half, scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win.
KEEPER WALKS OFF Defeat became too much for one player last week.
Trailing 3-0 in his side's Brighton League Premier Division clash with Legal and General last Tuesday, AFC St Georges goalkeeper Stuart Matthews walked off with 15 minutes remaining, never to return.
SINK OR SWIM It was a case of sink or swim when Rottingdean United 92 and Montpelier Villa's game at the weekend got underway in wet conditions.
Both sides were anxious to play, and the referee felt conditions were not hazardous to players although Dave Burt of United said: "It was true to say conditions were not dangerous although if you could not swim you were in danger of drowning." Ironically, the game was decided by a "diving" header with Dave Hedgecock awarded eight of of ten by the judges for style. At least both sides had a whale of a time. Sorry we said that on porpoise.
ROLES REVERSED Surely a case of roles reversed? The third goal of Upper Beeding's midweek win over Henfield involved a galloping run through the heavy ground, a smart finish and two players with an age gap of 17 years.
However, it was veteran Mark Salter who made the burst forward and youngster Stuart Barry who did little else but stroke the ball home.
GOING GETS TOUGH When things are tough, they are tough. Crawley League side Phoenix II might have been hoping for an easy fixture after a midweek defeat against Crawley Charity Trophy finalists TSC III.
Instead, their next game was against the side TSC will meet in the final, St Francis Flyers, and Phoenix promptly lost 8-0.
MINUS AGONY Spare a thought for Haywards Heath Ladies third team. The season is a month away from finishing and Heath still have a points tally of minus three.
TRUE CHAMPIONS Reaburn Rovers U-12s completed an unbeaten league season last weekend after being awarded a walkover in their final match. Reaburn won the Sussex Sunday Youth League Division B with a record of 19 wins and one draw from their 20 matches. Prolific strike pair Andy McDowell (51 goals) and Luke Pullinger (21) scored 72 goals between them.
