Albion fans greeted promotion with a roar as their team played their way into the Second Division.
On the terraces, fans cheered, waved banners, danced and sang as the Albion beat Plymouth 2-0 on Saturday.
It is the Seagulls' first promotion since the 1987/88 season when they were promoted from the old third to the Second Division.
Since then the Albion have been in free fall, coming within 30 minutes of relegation from the football league in 1997.
In the last two seasons manager Micky Adams has guided the team back to winning ways.
Supporters listened to radios to keep in touch with news of other vital matches. With Hartlepool and Rochdale failing to register a win, the Albion knew they were up.
There was a party mood even before the match began on Saturday as fans released black and red balloons before kick-off.
As promotion news was confirmed, Adams joined players on the pitch with a banner saying "We are going up".
Players applauded and cheered the 1,300 fans and Adams threw his banner into the terraces.
