A murder inquiry was launched after a man died in a Brighton flat last night.
The victim, believed to be in his 20s, was found in a pool of blood in a first-floor room in Grand Parade.
It is understood he suffered head injuries and multiple stab wounds.
Paramedics gave emergency treatment but the man later died at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
A 37-year-old man was arrested later at an address in Hove and he was helping police with their inquiries today.
The alarm was raised by the caretaker of the block of bedsits, close to St Peter's Church, at 10.30pm.
A post-mortem examination was expected to be carried out today.
