Lewes returned from Ryman Division Three leaders Arlesey Town with another point for their promotion bid after a 1-1 draw in an entertaining game.

The Rooks made a dream start after only six minutes when Warren Bagnall found Sam Francis and he finished well to beat former Horsham goalkeeper Martin Patching.

Bagnall saw a shot cleared off the line by Gary Watts, but Arlesey equalised after 37 minutes when Marc Cable pushed Neil Trebble who duly converted the spot kick.

Matt Russell came off the bench to score his 30th goal of the season, but it was a mere consolation as Bognor crashed 5-2 at Walton and Hersham in Division One.

Russell scored the goal of the game with eight minutes left, lobbing the keeper from 25 yards. But by then the Rocks were 5-1 down to goals from David Cory (2), James Pearson, Adam Fennell and Danny Ray. Miles Rutherford's 20 yard strike had made it 3-1 on 52 minutes.

Hastings' slim promotion hopes in the Dr Martens League Eastern Division suffered a setback after a 2-0 defeat at Newport IOW.

Hastings had enjoyed more of the possession but fell behind in the 25th minute. Reserve goal keeper Shwan Jalal made two good saves before the ball was bundled over the line by Steve Watt.

Two minutes later Newport doubled their lead when a corner from the right was palmed in his own net by Jalal.

A spectular volley from Clinton More secured Langney Sports a 2-1 win at Tonbridge.

Andy Ducille broke the deadlock in the 68th minute when his fierce shot from the edge of the area shot rocketed into the roof of the net.

Tonbridge hit straight back through substitute Dave Arter's header, but in the 72nd minute More got on the end of John Westcott's cross for the winner.
