Albion are plotting the Rotherham route to Second Division prosperity.

The Board are poised to back boss Micky Adams' wish to add "four or five" players to the squad which has just clinched promotion from Division Three.

Adams had preliminary discussions with chairman Dick Knight this week about the playing budget for next season.

Chief executive Martin Perry revealed: 'What we are doing right at this very minute is reviewing the club budgets in relation to Second Division football.

"In due course we will sit down with Micky and see what money can be made available. He will identify to the Board a list of players he would like to target, as was the case last season, and we will agree that list with him."

Rotherham, promoted from the Third Division last season, are in contention to go up again from the Second after signing six players with experience at the higher level.

They include former Albion midfielder Jeff Minton and Mark Robins, beaten into second place yesterday by Seagulls hotshot Bobby Zamora for the Nationwide player of the month for March.

Perry said: "Rotherham have stuck largely with the team and made some astute acquisitions here and there.

"They have strengthened an established side and we would hope to do something similar."

Albion resume their chase for the championship at lowly Carlisle tomorrow with the fit-again Matt Wicks and Lee Steele added to the squad.

They need seven points from five games to clinch the title providing Chesterfield's nine-point deduction is upheld. That target could fall if Alan Cork's Cardiff fail to get the win they need to clinch promotion at York tomorrow.

Adams' ex-assistant has just started a nine-match touchline ban and £6,000 fine for remarks he made to referee Paul Armstrong during Cardiff's 1-0 defeat by Albion at Withdean in February.
