A new helicopter training ground at Shoreham airport looks likely to get the go-ahead.

Airport bosses want to raise land at the north-western end of the airfield by two metres to provide a heli-pad. It would help provide year-round training for pilots when pads on other parts of the site were flooded.

There are three other pads at the airport which cannot be used during the winter so helicopter training has to take place on the eastern edge of the airfield, closer to nearby homes.

East Worthing and Shoreham MP Tim Loughton has met local residents who had complained about noise from the helicopters. As a result, the airport committee wants to use a site on the western boundary.

Adur Council has received four objections to the plan from residents in Lancing College Drive and from Lancing College.

The council's planning committee is being recommended to approve the new training ground when it meets on Monday.
