Martin Biggleston pulled off a nice treble at Eastbourne's finals weekend.

He won the championship for the first time when winning 21-13 over twice former winner Peter Reynolds. It was a deserved win by Biggleston.

With Derek Dyer, Biggleston won the pairs 22-12 over John Brookshaw and Sid Holdford and in the fours Biggleston, Peter Reynolds, Dave Booth and Dyer beat Tony Kemp, Mike Tatum, Eric Stepney and Vince Smith.

The triples saw a dramatic climax when David Bain, Ron Putland and David's son Steve finished 4,3,1, including an extra end, to beat Gerry Smith, George Brown and Mick Martin 15-14.

Carol Ashby won the women's championship for the third time after recovering from a slow start to beat Viv Fermor 21-14.

Val Burr and Pat Bain got two shots on the last end to win the pairs 18-17 against Marie Staples and Joyce Collins while Sharon Marley, Pat Bain and Ashby won the triples.

Club secretary Rod Jamieson did a double at the Arun finals but missed out on a hat trick of titles when he lost the pairs final with Frank Armstrong 21-13 to Steve Mead and Peter Hannam.

Rod and Wendy Adams won the mixed pairs 27-8 against Margaret Bayliss and Hannam while Daphne Anderson, Mavis Butler, Jamieson and Angus Anderson took the mixed fours 20-10 against Pam Ramptom, Christine Calder, Dave Herbert and Alan Catterson.

Colin Knight won the singles for the eighth time when he beat Peter Miles 21-8 and Betty Spicer lifted the women's title with a 21-18 win over Frances Ireland.

Robin and Frank Armstrong and Anthony Bull won the triples 21-19 against Mark Desmond, Mead and Hannam and in the fours Ray Leggatt, David Sayers, Ray Stephens and Richard Giles won 24-17 against Ian Harvey, Darren Miles, Catterson and Herbert.

With a winners prize of £600 and a runners-up cheque of £180, Egerton Park launched the Dengate Cup open double triples tournament with 12 teams, six short of the ideal number required.

The early stages were played on a round robin basis with each team guaranteed three games.

Falaise and Eastbourne qualified for the semi-finals, but both were beaten by Egerton Park.

Event organiser Ray Hodd, with Gerry Mepham and Peter Gunston, went down 16-10 to Eastbourne's Martin Biggleston, Peter Reynolds and Derek Dyer while the other Egerton Park trio of Dave Williams, Robin Boswell and Pip Piper won 20-9 over Terry Howard, Den Lincoln and Len Bull. It gave Park a 30-25 overall success.

Falaise were pipped with a late five by Colin Carrie, Gordon Scott and Colin's son Kevin being decisive. They played Charles Wright, Keith Cheetham and Ron Packham while Trevor Monk, Steve Sands and Colin Murray were up against Bill Carter, John Wright and Steve Jeapes.

Gunston's team went 22-2 up at 13 ends in the final against Murray's three. They did drop 1,1,2,5 over four of the last five ends but won 23-11 and this carried the team to victory as Piper's team lost 22-14.
