Lewes maintained their division three promotion bid with a 1-0 victory at lowly Clapton thanks to a goal by Sam Francis two minutes from time.
In their sixth away game in seven matches, second-placed Lewes looked tired in the opening 45 minutes. The nearest they came to a goal was when an attempted clearing header by Clapton's Jason Smith from a left-wing cross by Chris Dicker just cleared his own bar.
Rooks came under pressure and goalkeeper Florian Ludewig was quick off his line to save at the feet of Lee Cornhill.
Lewes looked more in control after the interval and went close on several occasions, particularly when Tommy Pattenden and Justin Harris were denied by goalkeeper Craig Knox.
Luck was on Rooks' side for the winner. A teasing cross from Paul Stokes hit the back of a defender and fell to Francis who finished well.
Bognor boss Jack Pearce blasted his team after a 2-2 draw at Barton Rovers in Division One.
He said: "When you come to a place with a bad playing surface and the team almost doomed, you still have to work hard and defend properly.
"We defended poorly and failed to convert our chances when we should have killed them off so we end up having to share the spoils."
Bognor went a goal down in the 15th minute when unmarked Brett Donnelly headed home, but Matt Russell levelled three minutes later after Jodey Rowland and David Birmingham had combined.
Russell went close with three further chances and Michael Birmingham had a free-kick blocked.
He had a header disallowed for offside shortly after the interval before Rocks took the lead seven minutes from time through Neil Scammell who headed home a Jamie Howell cross.
Russell had another goal disallowed for handball and Barton equalised in injury time after Howell lost possession and Pete Jennings slid the ball under the advancing Craig Stoner.
Worthing were left to reflect on the concession of sloppy goals as Ford United scored twice in the last 15 minutes to snatch a 3-3 division one draw at Woodside Road.
Simon Funnell scored twice in between a deflected shot from Jamie Wallace. It still looked good for Worthing when Kris Taylor put through his own goal to make it 3-1 for the hosts with 25 minutes left. But Rebels let it slip when James Cole bundled the ball in at the far post before Damian Webber back-headed the ball into his own net two minutes from time.
Funnell said: "Damian didn't get a call so I think he was trying to clear."
