Health Minister John Denham will visit the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital, Brighton, on Wednesday.
He will meet representatives of Brighton Health Care NHS Trust with Brighton Pavilion MP David Lepper.
Health bosses want to move the Royal Alex into a new building in the grounds of the Royal Sussex County Hospital.
Mr Lepper said: "Most of us have fond memories of the Alex because we or our children have been cared for there. But now the 120-year-old buildings are reaching the end of their improvable life.
"The new unit on the Royal Sussex site will be closer to accident and emergency, the Trevor Mann baby unit and other specialist services, providing our children with traditional Royal Alex care in 21st Century facilities."
Mr Denham will also meet officials from the universities of Sussex and Brighton who put together the successful bid for a new medical school.
He will be at the hospital in Dyke Road from 10.15am on Wednesday.
